Welcome to Bay Woof, April 2024

Spring into Sports!

Spring is blooming here in the Bay Area! After all the rain we’ve had, we’re thrilled to see so many sporty dogs out and about, leaping through glorious fields of California poppies, fuchsias, lilacs, and sunflowers.

We’ve been trying to get the Golden Gate Dog Sports training facility into an issue ever since they opened in 2020, the same year Bay Woof re-launched as an e-magazine. So we’re happy to report that this month’s “Dog in Sports” theme includes not one but two features highlighting its top-notch classes for the athletically inclined, all underpinned by the best positive reinforcement training methods. For the lowdown on this place, check out Erika Slovikoski’s piece about training her beloved pup Crimes there, plus Sara Scott’s informative interview with GGDS agility trainer, Olivia Hendricks.

The April pack of contributors are no couch potatoes either (okay, there might be a coupla spuds). Either way, be sure to build in a well-deserved breather to enjoy takes by your favorite regular writers, plus a few new faces: Dr. Ian Dunbar, Dr. Lisa Franzetta, Judy Wasman, Grace Phillips, Jane Tobin, S. Emerson Moffat, Amy Luwis, and RU Steinberg.

Remember, whether you prefer your sports on TV or in the flesh (and fur), enjoying them with your best pal is always the winningest way to go.

Happy spring from all of us at Bay Woof!
