ABOUT THE COVER: Gentle Riley was an impulse rescue from the Pinole shelter in December 2009. He was deemed too timid for adoption and was due to be euthanized when photographer Jill Posener spotted him and carried him to her car. Jill founded PAW FUND, a non-profit in the East Bay that provides free pet vaccines as part of a harm reduction program to help low-income and homeless individuals take care of their pets. This prevents more Rileys from ending up in shelters. Vist pawfund.org for more information.
