About the Print Cover
This month’s cover illustration is by Minnie Phan of Oakland. It’s a watercolor painting, and she was inspired by Stinson Beach and her family’s dog, Luna.
“I love seeing the joy of animals roaming free on beaches, and I wanted to capture Luna’s smile in my drawing of the dog. I intended for the image to feel animated, like the viewer could feel the dog leaping from the page to catch the medal,” Phan said. “The Beast of the Bay issue of Bay Woof is a celebratory one, and I wanted the cover to be equally happy and joyful. Lastly, I am totally a dog person. I don’t have one myself, but my little sister rescued a pup from LA while in college at UC, Santa Barbara. Soon after, the pupperino ended up in the arms of my parents and siblings in Concord. We named her Luna, and she’s made a home in our hearts ever since.” See more of Phan’s illustrations at MinniePhan.com or follow her on Instagram (minnie_phan) or Facebook (MinniePhanIllustration).
