The Brown Dog Riots

Between 1957 and 1966, nine dogs made orbital flights in the name of advancing the Soviet space program.

 

When Liza Minelli appeared in Sweden with Frank Sinatra and Sammie DavisJr., she brought along her Cairn terrier, Lilly. Due to Sweden’s strong quarantine law, however, Minelli eventually had to leave her with a friend in Paris.

 

More than half of all dogs in the United States are mixed breeds.

 

In 1903, allegations of illegal experimentation on a brown terrier at University College London caused an outrage among animal rights advocates. In response, they erected a Brown Dog Statue, but medical students who said the experimentation was done properly attacked the memorial and kicked off the Brown Dog Riots. In 1909, the statue was taken down, but it was replaced in 1985.
