2nd Annual Pet Parade – Pleasant Hill Art Wine & Music Festival. Sat., Oct. 5, 11 a.m.-noon, Peet’s Coffee, 65 Crescent Drive, Pleasant Hill. Join in the fun at this parade with grand marshal Phill (Pleasant Hilliard Goldendale the First), Pleasant Hill’s favorite four-legged resident, leading the way. 10 Year Anniversary of Sniff: The Dog Movie. Wed., Nov. 5, 7 p.m., Grand Lake Theatre, Oakland. Sniff: The Dog Movie turns 10 and director Barry Stone is celebrating with a screening at the Grand Lake Theatre. The movie, which premiered Nov. 5, 2009, tells the story of two dogs whose training began at Guide Dogs for the Blind. One became a guide dog and the other grew up to become a search and rescue dog. Tickets available at the door.

13th Annual Pawtrero Dog Day Afternoon. Sun., Nov. 3, 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Pawtrero Bathhouse & Feed, 199 Brannan St., San Francisco. Join Pawtrero for Dog Day Afternoon, an  adoption street fair in San Francisco. It features a pet costume contest, a pet photo booth, pet caricatures, a live DJ, trick or treating, pet adoptions, and vendors.

16th Annual Furball. Sat., Oct. 12, 1-6 p.m., Hayward Animal Shelter, 16 Barnes Court, Hayward. Featuring black and white shelter pets. $20 adoptions for all coat colors, hors d’oeuvres, drinks, raffle prizes, and more.

After the Ball 2019. Thu., Oct. 10, 6-9 p.m., USS Hornet, Alameda, $150. Help save homeless pets by attending the 9th annual gala and fundraiser benefitting the Alameda Animal Shelter, which is managed by Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter. The evening includes gourmet hors d’oeuvres, a buffet, dessert, beer, wind, a cocktail special, a live DJ, live and silent auctions, raffle, and games.

Barktoberfest 2019. Sat., Oct. 26, 1-2:30 p.m., Point Isabel Regional Shoreline, Richmond. Come to PIDO’s annual dog costume contest and parade, with prizes for best small-, medium-, and large-dog costume, best homemade costume, best pack, best dog-and-owner combo, and more. Register for the contest at the tables near MudPuppy’s.

Best in Show — Stories From Beyond the Shelter Essay Contest. Fri., Oct. 18, Freight & Salvage Coffeehouse, 2020 Addison St., Berkeley. The third annual storytelling benefit and star-studded event, featuring celebrated author Isabel Allende and KQED’s Michael Krasny, benefits shelter animals and Berkeley Humane’s lifesaving programs. Tickets are available from the Freight & Salvage Theater box office. There will be a cocktail reception and a silent auction before the event with proceeds supporting Berkeley Humane.

Boots, Barks, & Barrels 2019! Sat., Oct. 19, 11 a.m.-4p.m., “Wild Wild” West Wines, Healdsburg. This event benefits the Paws for Love Foundation. A $25 donation includes wine tasting, hand-painted glass, paw-painting, and a costume contest. Lunch is available, as are animals for adoption., 707.799.6151.

Delta Humane Society’s Saving Our Furry Friends. Sat., Oct. 12, 5-8 p.m., Club Brookside, 3536 Brookside Drive, Stockton. Food, wine, auction, music, booths, and more. $40. 

DogFest BayArea 2019. Sat., Oct. 26, 11 a.m.-4 p.m., Jack London Square, Oakland. DogFest Bay Area brings dog lovers together for a cause and includes a dog walk along the waterfront, a costume contest, music, beer and wine garden, food, people and pooch crafts, doggy treats, pet photos, caricatures, and festival booths for adults, kids and dogs. Halloween Yappy Hour and Costume Party. Sat., Oct. 19, 5-7 p.m., Laughing Monk Brewing, 1439A Egbert Ave., San Francisco. It’s a pawty for you and your pooch, with a pawriffic night on tap: a pet costume contest, photo session, and tricks for treats. A ticket includes a complimentary drink and a goodie bag. Los Gatos Halloween Pet Parade. Sun., Oct. 27, 3-5 p.m., Sereno Group Los Gatos, 214 Los Gatos Saratoga Rd., Los Gatos. The Los Gatos Halloween Pet Parade will start at Sereno Group Los Gatos and end at Loma Brewing Company. Come with your family and your pet in costume and trick-or-treat down North Santa Cruz Avenue. Visit participating shops and restaurants offering treats (or tricks) for you and your pet. Tickets are $10 a family and $5 for individuals. All proceeds will be donated to the SPCA.

Guide Dogs for the Blind’s Graduation Ceremonies. Sat., Oct. 12 & 26, 1:30 p.m. Guide Dogs for the Blind California Campus, 350 Los Ranchitos Road, San Rafael. Honor the independence and companionship that GDB’s exceptional guide dogs provide for the people they will serve. These services also allow GDB clients to meet the committed puppy raisers who cared for their canine heroes until they were old enough to begin formal training at GDB’s campus. Show up 20-30 minutes before graduations. Graduation-day public tours of the campus are offered at 10:30 a.m. or noon on the days of the ceremonies. Pre-registered bus groups are also welcome. Also these Saturdays in 2019: Nov. 9 & 23; Dec. 7 & 21. 

Movie Afternoon With the Joe Dickerson Group @ New Parkway Theater. Sat., Oct. 12, 3-5 p.m., The New Parkway Theater, 474 24th St., Oakland. Attend a free screening of The Secret Life of Pets, and a small donation will be made to the Hopalong Animal Rescue for each attendee. Free snacks and drinks. 

Pet Blessings. Sun., Oct. 6, 10-11 a.m., St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 1957 Pruneridge Ave., Santa Clara. Come get your beloved pet (of any kind, including stuffed animals) blessed, free.

Raise the Woof. Thu., Oct. 17, 6-9:30 p.m., Impact Hub, 2323 Broadway, Oakland. Help Friends of Oakland Animal Services Raise the Woof. $150.

Sunnyvale Jax Memorial Pet Parade. Sun., Oct. 27, Sunnyvale Downtown, 260 South Sunnyvale Ave., Sunnyvale. A Sunnyvale tradition celebrates the Halloween season with a costume pet parade through downtown. Pet parents can dress up, too. The parade commemorates the death of Sunnyvale K-9 officer Jax who died from an on-duty stabbing injury. Proceeds from the parade will go toward a K-9 memorial.

Wag Hotels’ 6th Annual Haunted Howl-o-ween Party – Oakland. Wed., Oct. 30, 6-8 p.m., Wag Hotels Oakland, 39 Fourth St., Oakland. This annual party will benefit the Pets In Need rescue organization. There will be a haunted hotel waiting for you and your pooch to explore, with tricks and treats around every corner. Events include photos with Cruella de Vil, a costume contest with prizes, trick-or-treat goodies, a raffle, local vendors, Wag swag, and more.,

Wags to Riches 2019. Sat., Oct. 5, 4-8 p.m., Shrine Event Center, 170 Lindbergh Ave., Livermore. Have doggone fun at Wags to Riches, which includes live and silent auctions, a bag raffle, Police K9 demonstrations, and a meal catered by Englund’s Catering. There will be plenty of “ambassadogs” representing their favorite breed, German shepherds, and making the evening festive. No outside dogs allowed.
